May 20 – Fatima meets Mr.Rahim

STORY A DAY – STORY IN THE PRESENT TENSE

Fatima always dreams of spending a day alone outside her home. Her dream comes true on a bright, shiny day of summers, she left her house carrying her favorite brown leather handbag on the shoulders. Handbag has a chilled water bottle, a fresh lemon juice and some eatables. Riding on the bicycle, fatima notices that Mr Rahim is carrying a heavy sack of loaded vegetables toward the market for selling and earning his livelihood. She immediately parked the bicycle and asked Mr.rahim to take her bicycle and return when he is done with his work. The old man has refused earlier but on insisting by soft heartened fatima, he agrees and takes bicycle. She also gave him a lemon juice and eatables.

The girl started walking toward market, without any purpose, just to experience about the nature of people. She observes new people and deeply think how is everyone so different with each other. Some man give an annoying stare while few women comments on her as she is walking all alone. She keeps on asking abrupt questions to herself, “Why people are always in hurry”? Why they put efforts to judge others? Does no one care for a stranger?

Roaming for about two hours, she returns home with confused emotions about the depressing attitudes of the people, whom she met outside. She realizes that she has not seen a kind and humble person in the whole day and concludes with an idea that it’s far better to sit inside and do not dream about the imaginary loved world outside.

On her way to sleep, Fatima suspiciously notices that a man is trying to push the main entrance door of the house. She feels little worried but hopeful that she has seen this man today and he has a generous heart. As she opens the door, she is over-whelmed to see that a family of 8 people have come to thank her for letting helping hand to their father today when he was going toward market to sell vegetables.

“Why you let your old-aged father to work such hard”, asked fatima from the elder son of Mr.rahim. He replies that our father had a discussion with us last week that I want to see if there is still any kind and humble human being in this world who would help a strange old-aged man and give everything she/he has and if I find such person in two weeks, I will not suffer hard and relax.

Today You have made me wrong Fatima, said Mr. Rahim happily. Fatima smiles and replied back the same to Mr. Rahim, “You have made me wrong too”.
