On a pretty sunset, a girl planned to travel to the nearest town with her family. The girl belonged to a poor family, dependent on little resources. Unluckily, the family got attacked by a group of robbers. The girl tried to escape and eventually, succeeded. The fortunate girl hurriedly ran toward the forest and hid behind a tall tree.

The forest was packed with giant trees, scary enough to dodge a stranger. Different kinds of birds were humming around the trees to greet a new strange bird, who flew from the neighboring city. The dense forest scared the kind-hearted girl, but she found solace in a peaceful, quiet tree.

As the girl was resting behind the tree, a beautiful dove came and brought a golden key. The girl was stunned to look at the calm small bird who was holding a golden key in its beak. She was astonished as the bird pointed her to unlock the tree. She quickly unlocked the tree with the help of golden key and felt overjoyed as she made an instant glance at the food.

As the sky turned dark and night arrived, the bird came again. This time, it brought the girl to another adjacent tree with a bed. She exclaimed with a thanking gratitude and started living in the forest for a couple of days. Every day, the bird came and helped her in many ways to survive.

One day the dove asked the girl to do a favor, to which she agreed willingly. The bird told her that she had to go to a wooden house of an old woman in search of a plain ring. The house will have an inner room, filled with splendid rings but she had to find a plain ring. But, it advised strictly to the girl that she should not interact with the woman.

The girl with a sincere heart followed all the instructions and was hopeful to bring the ring for the dove.

She entered the wooden house and welcomed by the old woman but the girl did not respond. Despite old woman’s anger, she stepped further toward the inner room and looked for the ring. The girl got bewildered as there was no plain ring at all.

The wicked old woman put effort to carry off the bird cage overlooking the girl’s sight. The brave girl snatched the cage and ran toward the forest. She felt contented as she got the bird cage because it had a bird with a plain ring in its beak.

The girl was excited to meet the dove and hand over the plain ring. She thought to take rest against the tree and wait for the bird. As she was waiting anxiously, the tree turned into a handsome man and turned his arms around the pretty girl and kissed her.

The girl was surprised as the handsome man revealed that old woman is a witch who had turned him into a tree from the last year. But, he was lucky that he had the chance to become a bird for two hours a day. The dove who helped the girl and asked for a favor was also the same young man. He was thankful that the girl accomplished and saved him from the curse of the witch.

The other young fellows and attendants of the man also turned into humans and thanked with gratitude to the young girl.

The handsome hunk was not a common man, he was a Prince and belonged to the King’s Kingdom. The Prince and his companions headed toward the Kingdom to reunite with the family.

Everyone at the Kingdom praised the girl and acknowledged her fearlessness to trick the wicked old lady.

Finally, the Prince found the heroic girl as the Princess and they got happily married.

May 20 – Fatima meets Mr.Rahim

STORY A DAY – STORY IN THE PRESENT TENSE

Fatima always dreams of spending a day alone outside her home. Her dream comes true on a bright, shiny day of summers, she left her house carrying her favorite brown leather handbag on the shoulders. Handbag has a chilled water bottle, a fresh lemon juice and some eatables. Riding on the bicycle, fatima notices that Mr Rahim is carrying a heavy sack of loaded vegetables toward the market for selling and earning his livelihood. She immediately parked the bicycle and asked Mr.rahim to take her bicycle and return when he is done with his work. The old man has refused earlier but on insisting by soft heartened fatima, he agrees and takes bicycle. She also gave him a lemon juice and eatables.

The girl started walking toward market, without any purpose, just to experience about the nature of people. She observes new people and deeply think how is everyone so different with each other. Some man give an annoying stare while few women comments on her as she is walking all alone. She keeps on asking abrupt questions to herself, “Why people are always in hurry”? Why they put efforts to judge others? Does no one care for a stranger?

Roaming for about two hours, she returns home with confused emotions about the depressing attitudes of the people, whom she met outside. She realizes that she has not seen a kind and humble person in the whole day and concludes with an idea that it’s far better to sit inside and do not dream about the imaginary loved world outside.

On her way to sleep, Fatima suspiciously notices that a man is trying to push the main entrance door of the house. She feels little worried but hopeful that she has seen this man today and he has a generous heart. As she opens the door, she is over-whelmed to see that a family of 8 people have come to thank her for letting helping hand to their father today when he was going toward market to sell vegetables.

“Why you let your old-aged father to work such hard”, asked fatima from the elder son of Mr.rahim. He replies that our father had a discussion with us last week that I want to see if there is still any kind and humble human being in this world who would help a strange old-aged man and give everything she/he has and if I find such person in two weeks, I will not suffer hard and relax.

Today You have made me wrong Fatima, said Mr. Rahim happily. Fatima smiles and replied back the same to Mr. Rahim, “You have made me wrong too”.

Favorite book from favorite author

I just finished “And the Mountains Echoed”.
Another master piece by Khaled Hosseni, who is an Afghan-American writer and it is his third book after Kite Runner and The thousand Splendid Suns.
The book has gained much popularity in short span of time, this is a superstar storyteller and Khaled once again proved his spectacular writing skills in the novel. I say it with no doubts.

“And the Mountains Echoed” begins with a fable that a father, named Saboor, tells his children Abdullah and Pari. In the story, the gaint takes away children of the village and disappears. The residing farmer of the village forced to sacrifice their one favorite child to div, but the farmer tracked div and found his child in happy mode in a garden with happy faces. The farmer decided to leave after seeing his child in a better environment and as a gesture of kindness, the giant gave him some portion of land, which will make him forget his son and that will overcome his poverty.
Khaled Hosseni has connected this story tale with family of Saboor from Shahdabagh village. The book is about inseparable love between Pari and Abdullah, the bond between siblings is pure and filled with emotion, tenderness and affection. The story is how the relation of Pari and Abdullah gets disconnected for many years, how their family suffers, how their lives move from countries to countries and how their other family connections reunite their relation at the end. It is beautiful simple story that captures the essence of the readers. One always becomes curious to know what happen next with Pari and Abdullah. There is involvement of many other characters, which are interesting and has a connection with each other. It has many words from French. To be honest, I found some of the parts of book little confusing but over all this is an amazing story, not to be missed out from your collection of favorite books.

The book has some letters from Pari’s uncle,Nabi to Pari, which tells another interesting story. I really find them engaging as it reveals the story that happened years back. As a storyteller, he draws attention toward every character in detail and comes up with truth about human experience.
I suggest all my followers to read the book and I assure you will definitely love it.
